Suspended Narratives
Balloch's Mirrors
2021 Acrylic on canvas, 121.9 x 91.4 cm
Suspended Narratives are layered constructions that condense different spaces by deploying diverse pictorial styles and communication mediums, incorporating writing in some pieces and making the text part of the development of the work.
The assemblage of collaged elements suspended in the canvas space evokes a state of constant reconfiguration, like clouds in continual flux, which resonates with the physical and physiological place of production and my interest in human migration and exchange among societies.

The hybrid nature of the work reflects a transdisciplinary practice. Numerous sources from architecture, handmade objects, photographs, literature, and readings in global history and science, interact in a creative journey that starts with no predicted results, each piece finding its possibilities and posing new questions.
Layers of transparent pigment confer a luminous quality, creating changes in colour and temperature by optical mixing.
